How our name was born

Ocean Winds (OW) is an international company dedicated to offshore wind energy and created as a 50-50 joint venture, owned by EDP Renewables and ENGIE. Based on our belief that offshore wind energy is an essential part of the global energy transition, we develop, finance, build and operate offshore wind farm projects all around the world.

When EDPR and ENGIE combined their offshore wind assets and project pipeline to create OW in 2019, the company had a total of 1.5 GW under construction and 4.0 GW under development. OW has been adding rapidly to that portfolio and is now on a trajectory to reach the 2025 target of 5 to 7 GW of projects in operation, or construction, and 5 to 10 GW under advanced development. Currently, OW’s offshore wind gross capacity already operating, in construction or with advanced development rights granted has reached around 17 GW.

We are generating the future of offshore wind energy. We have an ambition to make offshore one of the main sources of renewable energy by providing more efficient and sustainable technologies.

We focus on innovative solutions such as digitalization of systems and are proud of technology solutions like floating platforms steering us towards a carbon neutral world.

Bautista Rodriguez Sanchez

Chief Executive Oficer, (CEO)

The Baltic Sea has the offshore potential to become a second North Sea. The Polish part of the Baltic Sea has some of the best conditions for offshore wind farm development due to relatively shallow waters and optimal wind conditions.

The potential of the entire Baltic Sea is calculated in a hundred gigawatts by mid-century. Poland is the largest Baltic market, with as many as 30 gigawatts planned by 2050. By necessity, Poland can, and should, become the logistics, service and manufacturing hub of the region.

Grzegorz Górski

Chief Operating Officer, (COO)

ENGIE is a global reference in low-carbon energy and services. Together with its 170,000 employees, its customers, partners and stakeholders, they are committed to accelerate the transition towards a carbon-neutral world, through reduced energy consumption and more environmentally-friendly solutions. Inspired by its purpose (“raison d’être”), they reconcile economic performance with a positive impact on people and the planet, building on its key businesses (gas, renewable energy, services) to offer competitive solutions to its customers.

Turnover in 2020: 55.8 billion Euros. The Group is listed on the Paris and Brussels stock exchanges (ENGI) and is represented in the main financial indices (CAC 40, Euronext 100, FTSE Eurotop 100, MSCI Europe) and non-financial indices (DJSI World, DJSI Europe, Euronext Vigeo Eiris – Eurozone 120/ Europe 120/ France 20, MSCI EMU ESG, MSCI Europe ESG, Stoxx Europe 600 ESG, and Stoxx Global 1800 ESG).

ABOUT US

Our Team

Wherever OW develops its investments, a local team of top experts is created in parallel.

The team in Poland has been operationally active since 2019. At the end of 2023 there were over 50 of us and we are still growing!

At the end of 2024, the OW team in Poland will consist of around 60 people of different specializations: from engineers for the onshore and offshore part; health, safety and environment specialists, project management and the operational part of the investment. Ocean Winds has two locations: an office in Warsaw and Gdynia.

We value the culture of working in a small but effective project team. Efficient communication is important to us, which is why we maintain a relatively flat organisational structure. We are focused on results but also on good working atmosphere.

Kacper Kostrzewa

BC-Wind Project Director

A learning
organisation

One of Ocean Winds' priorities is to build a culture of support and knowledge sharing within the organisation.

We are using the experience we have gained from our existing projects to create international project teams and knowledge-sharing platforms. We want to develop competences in the newly emerging offshore wind market in Poland. Ocean Winds has adopted the principle of building a team of local experts in each market where we operate.
