• Ocean Winds, a global leader in the offshore wind industry, has signed an agreement with the Polish company P&Q, general contractor in the energy sector, for the delivery of key onshore infrastructure for the BC-Wind project.
• The agreement covers the design, construction, installation, and commissioning of the onshore power substation (ONS), aimed at integration with the national power grid.
Ocean Winds, a global company specializing in offshore wind energy, established as a 50-50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE, has signed an agreement with the Polish company P&Q for the comprehensive execution of the onshore grid infrastructure for the BC-Wind project at the Baltic Sea. The scope of the contract includes the design, construction, installation, and commissioning of the onshore power substation in the Choczewo municipality, Pomeranian Voivodeship. This partnership significantly strengthens the involvement of local entities in the supply chain for Ocean Winds’ first offshore wind farm project in Poland.

The BC-Wind onshore power substation will play a key role in transmitting the energy generated by the offshore wind farm to the national power grid. P&Q is commencing the design phase, with construction works scheduled to begin in 2026.
„The selection of P&Q as the contractor for the onshore power export system in the BC-Wind project continues our successful cooperation, which began in 2021. P&Q has successfully developed the conceptual and design documentation for the onshore substation and onshore export lines, making it a natural partner for the further execution of this project. As an international investor in Poland, we focus on developing the local supply chain and actively contribute to the growth of the Polish offshore wind market. We are pleased to have a partner who brings not only experience but also a strong commitment to delivering such a crucial component of our investment, the transmission infrastructure.”– said Kacper Kostrzewa, Managing Director at Ocean Winds.
The onshore substation will be located in the Choczewo municipality, on a 2-hectare site approximately 30 kilometers from the BC-Wind offshore wind farm. The planned investment includes the construction of 400kV and 275kV overhead switchyards, a power transformer, a control building, and a reactive power compensation system. The power transformer will be responsible for stepping up the voltage transmitted from the offshore substation—from 275 kV to 400 kV—enabling efficient energy transmission to the national power grid switchyard.
The onshore substation will operate as an unmanned facility with remote monitoring and control capabilities, ensuring high operational efficiency and safety. The investment site is directly adjacent to the 400kV Choczewo switchyard, owned by the Polish Transmission System Operator (PSE).
“Ocean Winds is one of the leading offshore wind energy developers globally, and our joint journey on the BC-Wind project began in 2021 with conceptual work, followed by design and analytical efforts related to the power export system. We proudly look at how this collaboration continues to grow. Reaching this key milestone in the BC-Wind project is the result of mutual determination and commitment. It is also a testament to the high quality of the services we provide and a confirmation that teamwork and belief in shared success are fundamental to achieving our goals”– said Piotr Sokołowski, Management Board Member, P&Q.
